The Island Gets Nearly $4 Million in Federal Stimulus For Sewer & Stormwater Upgrades!

Well President Obama hasn’t forgot about Pleasure Island, this comes as a shock as there was 190 applications for these federal grants and Carolina Beach & Kure Beach were selected by state Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Carolina Beach will receive $3.3 million – the most of any community in the state  to build two storm water ponds to help with runoff in the Wilmington Beach area and replace old sewer lines along U.S. 421 through its busy downtown core. Kure Beach was awarded nearly $620,000 to replace approximately 6,500 feet of sewer line along U.S. 421 around its central business district.

Well what dose this mean for us? the surfers? Well new sewer lines will help keep the sewage in the pipe during extreme high tides and heavy rain falls and will help keep out beaches free of raw overflowing sewage that happens from time to time when to much water enters the system from run off and cracks in the old sewer pipes.
